Thierry Mugler — Western Topstitch Blazer (Early 2000s)

Mugler spent thirty years proving the body could be architecture. This blazer is a late chapter of that argument — the waist drawn in, the back releasing into a peplum, the shoulders built to frame rather than overpower. The silhouette is settled. What makes this piece specific is what he chose to put on top of it.

White topstitching traces the collar in the ornamental language of western tailoring, lifted from American frontier shirts and placed on a Parisian blazer. The pocket detail follows the same logic: an arabesque in contrast thread that sits somewhere between the corsetry work he’d been refining for three decades and a Wyoming rodeo jacket.

Mugler stepped away from the house in 2002. This is from his final years at the helm.
